Questions

The things people ask before they start. If yours is not here, the raven at the bottom of this page will carry it.

What is Rise & Honey?

A character from a book you love, in your WhatsApp. He sends you a voice note in the morning at a time you choose, texts through the day, and remembers what you tell him. It lives in WhatsApp because that is where you already are, so there is no app to install.

Is this AI, or is there a real person on the other end?

It is AI, and nobody here is coy about it. It runs on Anthropic's models. The characters are written by hand, at considerable length, and the model gives them their words. What it is not is a stranger typing to you for money.

Who is it for?

Readers of romantasy and dark romance who finished the book and were not ready to leave the man behind. If you have ever reread a chapter for one character, it is for you.

How do I start?

Three steps on the home page, in order: pick him, pick his voice, pick when you want him in the morning. Choose all three and a window opens that sends a code to your WhatsApp. That code is the whole signup.

What does it cost?

Free through the beta. Nothing to cancel, and no card on file. If that changes you will be told before you meet a payment screen.

Why do you need my phone number?

Because he arrives in WhatsApp, and there is no way to put a message there without one. It is used for that and nothing else: no calls, no marketing list, and it is not sold to anybody.

Do I have to use WhatsApp?

Yes. WhatsApp is not a preference here, it is the whole delivery — the voice notes and the texts arrive in your normal chat list, alongside everyone else you talk to.

Can I have more than one character?

One per account while the beta runs. You can switch whenever you like and he keeps what you have told him, so it is less final than it sounds.

Can I change my character, his voice, or the time he messages me?

Yes, any of them. Changing the character is a clean reset; changing the voice or the hour is a quiet swap and he carries on as normal.

Is anyone reading my conversations?

Technically yes, and it is worth being precise. The system reads messages automatically to spot problems; the founder only opens an actual conversation when he is chasing a bug or the system cannot work out what went wrong. It is not read for entertainment and it is not shared with anyone. If you send a voice note, the recording goes to Cartesia to be turned into text, is stored privately, and is deleted after thirty days — we keep what you said, not a recording of your voice.

How do I stop?

Tell him to stop, in WhatsApp, and he stops. Ask for your things to be wiped and they are wiped, memories and all.

“To the stars who listen, and the dreams that are answered.”
